<h2>Making Minnesota Affordable for Everyone</h2><ul><li>Increasing the Minimum Wage:&nbsp;The previous fight to raise the wage has moved our state in the right direction, providing a slight increase to the minimum wage every January, in line with inflation. However, it has simply not kept pace with the cost-of-living increases over the past decade. I was a proud lead on the bill that would rasie the wage to $20 get this done, and I am ready to return to the legislature to build a coalition prepared to give families the ability to afford their lives. One job should always be enough.</li><li>Healthcare for All Minnesotans, Regardless of Status: The decision to remove undocumented adults from being able to access Minnesota Care is morally wrong and fiscally irresponsible. I am deeply committed to the fight to restore access to life-saving treatment for all Minnesotans, regardless of status. That also means moving our state towards a single-payer healthcare system.</li><li>Building Abundant Housing, Affordable for Renters and Homeowners: In the legislature, I’ve been a vocal advocate for protecting renters and first-time home buyers alike. As a first-time homeowner, I am clear that we need to build an abundant supply of housing so that everyone, regardless of income, can have a stable roof over their head.</li></ul>

<h2>Meet Senator Zaynab Mohamed</h2>My name is Zaynab Mohamed, and I am so proud to represent Senate District 63 in the Minnesota State Senate. I'm a daughter, sister, organizer, policy advocate, and working-class immigrant. I believe that we can come together to create systems that make our lives easier, not harder.After immigrating from Somalia, my family built a life for themselves on the Southside of Minneapolis. Growing up in a working-class immigrant family, my mother took on 16-hour shifts as a factory worker, and my father worked two to three jobs to support our family. From a young age, my siblings and I had jobs to pay rent at the end of the month. I helped my family access healthcare, social services, immigration support, and the public school system. Like many other first-generation immigrants in our community, I have firsthand experience of navigating the government services that impact our lives.After being first elected in 2022, I organized within our legislature to deliver the historic wins that we saw in the DFL trifecta. Together, we have delivered for working families, fought for affordable housing, protected immigrant families, and <a style="color: var(--color-text); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text)" href="/ourwork">so much more</a>.Now, as the second Trump administration makes it clear who is in and who is out, I am more focused than ever on ensuring our state recognizes the inherent dignity of every Minnesotan. I hope you will join me in the fight ahead of us.

<h2>Stand up to Fascism and Oligarchy</h2><ul><li>Ensuring our Immigrant Neighbors are Safe and Welcomed: As the Trump Administration weaponizes ICE and federal agencies to deport our neighbors without due process, we need state leaders who will make it very clear that our immigrant neighbors deserve to be safe and protected here in Minnesota. We must ensure that our state agencies are not collaborating with ICE and ensure that the federal government is not weaponizing Minnesotans' private data.</li><li>Protecting our 2SLGBTQIA+ Neighbors: It is clear that the Trump Administration is going to do everything in its power to attempt to overturn the right to marry. We must continue to stand strong here in Minnesota. </li></ul>

<h2>Deliver for Future Generations</h2><ul><li>Banning Assault Weapons:&nbsp;This year, our district and state were struck by senseless gun violence. It is long past time for us to take definitive action to protect our children and our state. We must act fast to ban deadly assault weapons.</li><li>Ensure every Minnesotan has access to Pre-K and Childcare: We must fund a childcare system that gives providers the resources to deliver the best possible care during a child's earliest years, while ensuring that parents can afford to live. </li><li>Fully Fund Minnesota Public Schools, from Buildings to Books: We need to live up to our promises and invest in quality education for all our students. This means investing in infrastructure to replace and upgrade facilities while ensuring educators have the resources they need to care for our students. </li><li>Ensure Higher Education in Minnesota is Financially Viable: We need to empower our students to aim high, which is why I support offering free tuition for all public colleges, universities, and trade schools to in-state Minnesota residents. We must also explore paths for student debt forgiveness. </li><li>Continue to Push Towards Environmental Justice: Climate change continues to be an existential threat to our planet. We took bold action in 2023, and now the state must continue to invest in the programs and infrastructure to allow us to reach our ambitious 2030 goals. </li></ul>

"History was made on Monday when a conference committee to iron out differences between the Minnesota House and Senate versions of a bill to modify residential housing tenant and landlord provisions met. For the first time it was being chaired by two Black women, one of Nigerian descent and the other Somali.Before a bill can be sent to the governor for his signature, the House and Senate must reconcile any differences, so that only one bill emerges from the legislature. The process of accomplishing the reconciling is referred to as sending the bill to conference, hence conference committee. The two chambers choose their own representatives (conferees) to represent them at the conference committee. Typically, the chair of each chamber’s conferees being sent to conference on a bill tend to be one of the authors. Our majority is steadfast in upholding your fundamental rights and doing all we can to protect access to this vital healthcare. As such, the very first bill we introduced was the Protect Reproductive Options Act. This law provides every Minnesotan a fundamental right to make individual decisions about reproductive healthcare, including pregnancy, contraception, abortion, and more.
